13 Reasons why we are all obsessed with BRUNCH
You all know when you wake up on those hazy, hungover Sunday mornings, that seeing the word BRUNCH pop up on your phone screen from your group whatsapp text will absolutely give you faith that you can, in fact, get out of bed. But why do we love and obsess over this social meal so much?
1. It’s an easy way for us to kill our hangover.
There's no better way to rid yourself of that thumping headache or the nausea you think will never go away, than stuffing your face with too many different kinds of breakfast delights and lining your stomach with more alcohol
2. It makes us feel classy.
Getting together with your friends in casual but cute attire (for some this is what you had on the night before), sitting at a big table, ordering drink after drink, and eating and talking for hours not worrying about how much your bill is going to add up to, can make you feel pretty classy and that you're living the high life.
3. It gives us an excuse to pig out and not feel guilty…carbs on carbs on carbs.
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? So when it comes to this outing, calories don't count. We let ourselves over indulge because sometimes, we just need that extra order of Eggs Benedict or that second side of bacon. Butter isn't a carb, is it?
4. Fancy brunch place = great Instagram opportunity.
Don't pretend like you don't know what I'm talking about. You all think about it and most of you post them. We love to show off how cute and classy our travels are to the rest of the world and how much everyone who isn't there is missing out. Didn't wear makeup? Who cares! take a picture of your food and/or drinks instead. Throw on that filter and soak up those "likes."
5. It’s an excuse to day drink.
Do we actually need an excuse? Nope, but it's a great one and no one is going to look down on you for getting a little too smashed on orange juice and champagne.
6. It makes us feel like we’re living out our "Sex and the City" personas.
They're hot, in charge, and never let anyone or anything stop them from enjoying their food. Why wouldn't we want to pretend like our group is everything they are and more?
7. Go to brunch or go to the gym?
Are you actually going to deny yourself going to brunch so that you can hit the treadmill? This way you don't have to feel guilty about it, you just know you're going to suffer from a severe case of FOMO if you don't go.
8. We get to gossip about all the crazy shenanigans that went on the night before.
Oh, you missed out on watching your friend snog that random 30 year old at the bar, or when Brenda was cutting up shapes on the dance floor and all because you passed out early doors? Don't worry, this is the perfect opportunity for them to fill you in on as much as they can remember. Watching everyone's snap chat stories they didn't mean to post is a bonus.
9. Bloody Mary's and Mimosas.
Need I say more? "Sunday Funday" baby. No work on Monday…
10. You don’t have to wake up until double figures (at the earliest) to indulge.
Let's face it, none of you are "morning people" except maybe one of you, which annoys everyone when that one person is calling your mobiles at 9 a.m. No thank you, stop. This way, you wake up perfectly "hangry" and no one had to walk into your apartment and pull you out of bed for this occasion.
11. Brunch always comes with a soothing soundtrack and chilled vibes, songs from yesteryear, songs that make you smile and words that make you remember loved ones…
"Think Otis Redding…” “Sittin' in the mornin' sun, I'll be sittin' when the evenin' comes, Watchin' the ships roll in, Then I watch 'em roll away again”
What we don’t realise is we actually need the mellow sounds prescribed to us, because yes I do have a stinking headache from last night and the only thing to fix it apparently is a Bloody Mary whilst listening to Lionel Richie."
12. You can dress however you want.
There's no dress code when it comes to this gathering. Make-up: not required. Sunglasses inside: recommended. Hair: most likely up in a messy bun. Anything else: who cares?
